Bruce Hueners
Chief Executive Officer
Palomar Technologies

Palomar Technologies is a high tech firm headquartered in Carlsbad, CA and a recognized leader in precision automation equipment and process development for microelectronic assembly.   Bruce joined Palomar Technologies in 1981 when it was part of Hughes Aircraft and was instrumental in elevating Palomar to the role of market leader in the optoelectronics industry, orchestrating a series of acquisitions and partnerships for Palomar, and has played a major role in expanding Palomar’s business in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Palomar Technologies designs, manufactures, sells and services globally automated high-precision assembly systems that increase yield and lower costs for manufacturers of optoelectronic, RF, and microelectronic packages in the photonics, wireless, microwave, automotive, aerospace, medical, and life sciences industries.

These processes include high accuracy component assembly with eutectic solder, epoxy, or laser attach, precision ball and wedge bonding, and active optical align and attach.  Palomar’s Process Development and Prototyping Services assists companies in developing or validating new products by providing design, engineering, prototyping, assembly, and automation expertise, as well as metrology resources to bridge the gap between product concept and automated production.

Bruce has considerable experience and extensive engineering knowledge in the microelectronics, microelectronic packaging and interconnects, microwave and RF, and optoelectronics fields.  He collaborated in the development of laser interferometric measurement and die attach and wire bond systems and processes, has written more than 50 technical papers, and currently serves on the editorial board of Advanced Packaging magazine.  He is on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and currently Vice Chairman of the San Diego World Trade Center and helped to represent San Diego on the 2004 trade mission to China.

Prior to joining Palomar, Bruce was an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer with the Semiconductor Products Department at General Electric where he developed mechanized processes for high-volume optoelectronic assembly.  Hueners received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Indiana University, and a Certificate from the Executive Program for Scientists and Engineers at UCSD. He is a member of IMAPS, SMTA, IEEE, and the Optical Society of America.
